If you've decided to close a business account or service, we'll help make the process as simple as possible. There are different processes depending on the business account or iBB service you want to close.

  • To close a business account, you need to visit a branch and bring proof of identity. To close your iBusiness Banking (iBB) service, you must complete a separate iBB closure request and return it to a branch. You can also return the completed form to your branch by post.

  • Removing or deleting a business account from iBusiness Banking (iBB) only removes access to the account within iBB and doesn’t close the account itself. To close the business account, a separate account closure request must be completed, which can be done in a branch.

  • To close your business account, you must clear any outstanding balance including any amounts you owe.

  • If your business account is linked to another AIB product or service, such as an overdraft, loan, business card, and/or currency account, you may need to take additional steps before the account can be closed. Please contact a branch or your Relationship Manager for guidance.

  • Closing your business account does not automatically cancel your iBusiness Banking (iBB) service.

What do I do before I close my business account?

  • Stop using any business debit cards, cheque book and payment methods linked to the account before the closure date and make sure all pending transactions have been processed before submitting your closure request.

  • Cancel any direct debits and standing orders, or change them to different account before closing your account. This will prevent any payments being missed which could affect your credit history.

  • Please contact any customers, suppliers, payroll providers or other parties, who make payments into the account of your new BIC and IBAN (where applicable) to ensure payments are sent to the correct account in the future.

  • Choose a date to close the account during a period of low account activity to minimise disruption to your business.

  • Download or export statements and transaction information you need before removing your account from online banking and iBB. Once an account is deleted from iBB, historical information such as statements, interest and balances for that account will no longer be available on iBB. You can order statements from a branch if needed.

  • If more than one person is authorised on the account, check the signing authority and mandate before submitting instructions. Learn more about signing authority.

How do I close my business account?

You can close your business account by visiting a branch and completing a closure form. The closure form must be signed by the people authorised to operate the account under the account mandate. For example, this could be:

  • two directors;

  • one director and a company secretary; or

  • partners in a partnership.

The signing requirements depend on your business type and account mandate.

To close a Business Notice Deposit account you can visit a branch, or print and complete the Business Notice Deposit Request Notice to Transfer/Close Form and return it to any branch by post or in person. You must provide the required notice period before this account can be closed.

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Forms section of the iBB Help Centre

  2. Download, complete and print out the Withdraw a Company from iBB form

  3. Sign it in accordance with the mandate

  4. Return or post it to any branch.
