The creation of AIB
In 1966, three historic Irish banks came together to form Allied Irish Banks, creating a stronger institution ready to support a modernising Ireland. What began as an ambitious merger laid the foundations for six decades of progress, partnership and growth.
The computer revolution arrives
When AIB introduced its first computer system in 1973, it marked the beginning of a transformation that would change banking forever. The technology may seem modest by today's standards, but it set AIB on a path of innovation that continues to this day.
Irelands first female branch manager
In 1980, Pauline Martin became Ireland and AIB’s first female branch manager, a landmark moment for the bank and for Irish banking. Her appointment reflected a changing society and helped pave the way for greater opportunities for women across the organisation.
The GAA partnership begins
AIB's sponsorship of the All-Ireland Club Championships began in 1991 and grew into one of the longest-standing partnerships in Irish sport. More than sponsorship, it reflected AIB's deep connection with communities, clubs and volunteers across the island.
Introducing the Euro
The arrival of the euro in 2002 was one of the biggest changes in Ireland's financial history. AIB helped customers, businesses and communities navigate the transition, playing a central role in a milestone moment for the country and for Europe.
The first AIB Sustainability Conference (2017)
The first AIB Sustainability Conference in 2017 brought together leading voices to discuss climate action, innovation and the future economy. It marked the beginning of a journey that would place sustainability at the heart of AIB's purpose and strategy.
The AIB Community €1 Million Fund
Launched in 2022, the AIB Community €1 Million Fund enables customers, the public and our employees to support the local charities that matter most to them, within their region. The Fund supports charities across six regions in Ireland, Northern Ireland & Great Britain.
