AIB as part of its programme to make a positive and long term contribution to the communities in which we operate supports a number of educational initiatives.

These include:

Junior Achievement – AIB staff volunteer to help young people understand the world of work, help them set goals, plan for the future and learn the skills necessary to succeed. AIB has the largest number of JA volunteers in the corporate sector in Ireland.

AIB Junior Schools’ Debating competition – this is a debating competition for those students in their junior cycle of second level education in Ireland – run by the Literary and Historical Society in University College Dublin. It provides an introduction to debating and allows students to prepare and gain confidence while allowing for great interaction during the debates. It is the largest debating competition of its kind in the country.

Spirit of Enterprise – AIB is a sponsor and partner in the Spirit of Enterprise initiative which brings business and enterprise education together to bring stories about enterprise to the classroom. Real case studies are used which are designed to raise awareness and engage students in the life of business enterprise. Spirit of Enterprise aims to enhance the relevance of enterprise, promotes the development of the enterprise culture and raises awareness around career choices. This programme is supported by the Department of Education & Science.

Financial Education Module – AIB has developed a generic presentation on general banking products and services, which we are presenting to schools to support ‘financial education’ objectives. It aims to teach secondary school children about money in simple English, in a way that is accessible and understandable to them in a classroom environment. It does not contain details about AIB’s products and services.

AIB Build a Bank Challenge – an annual event which provides Irish students in transition and 5th year an opportunity to run their own school bank with the support of AIB. Teams of six take part in the setting up, running and day-to-day management of a bank in their school. Prizes are awarded for regional and overall winners.

‘Big Buzz’ - a transition year challenge organised by Agri Aware, supported by AIB. This challenges transition year students to explore their local communities, profile a local agri-business and outline the importance of agri-business in their local communities.
