Mobile Top Up

AIB provides you with a range of convenient options to Top Up your mobile phone, by AIB ATM or as a registered AIB Internet Banking customer through Top Up Online, Top Up by Text or AIB Phone Banking. Select one of the top up options below for more information:

Top Up Online through AIB Internet Banking

If you're a registered user of AIB Internet Banking you can now Top Up any Meteor, O2, Vodafone, eMobile, Tesco Mobile and Three mobile phone directly from your account. You can Top Up your own phone, your kids or whoever you like, without leaving your PC.

Simply select Mobile Top Up from the left menu in AIB Internet Banking and follow the instructions.

AIB Internet Banking also allows you to keep track of your mobile top ups using the Mobile Top Up Log which shows details of all of the top ups that you have completed from AIB Phone & Internet Banking and Top Up By Text.

To access AIB Mobile Banking you must be registered for AIB Phone & Internet Banking. To register call us now on 0818 724 020.

AIB Mobile Banking

If you're an AIB Phone & Internet Banking customer you can use AIB Mobile Banking to Top Up any Meteor, O2, Vodafone, eMobile, Tesco Mobile and Three prepaid mobile phone directly from your bank account.

Simply log in to AIB Mobile Banking on your smartphone, select ?Mobile Top Up? from the dropdown and follow the instructions.

AIB Mobile Banking also allows you to keep track of your mobile top ups using the Mobile Top Up Log which shows details of all of the top ups that you have completed from AIB Phone & Internet Banking, Top Up By Text and AIB Mobile Banking.

To access AIB Mobile Banking you must be registered for AIB Phone and Banking. To register call us now on 0818 724 020.

Top Up by Text

Top Up by Text allows AIB Phone & Internet Banking customers to Top Up prepaid mobile phones with a free text message to 50131.

In order to use the service, customers must register their mobile phone details using AIB Internet Banking (www.aib.ie/internetbanking) or by calling AIB Phone Banking on 0818 724 724.

Once you have registered you can use the service from your phone e.g. to Top Up your own registered phone by EUR15 simply text "topup" to the Top Up by Text number 50131. For more details on how to use the service, how to Top Up by a different amount or how to Top Up someone else's phone, view our  How to Use Top Up by text section. The Top Up by Text service is available on all Vodafone, O2, Tesco Mobile and Meteor numbers with an 083, 085, 086, 087 or 089  prefix only.

Features of Top Up by Text

  • You can Top Up your phone in amounts between EUR10 and EUR40 in multiples of EUR5
  • Credit is applied to your phone within 15 minutes
  • Top Ups can be completed using both bill pay and pre paid registered phones i.e. you can Top Up someone else's pre-paid phone even if your phone is a bill pay phone
  • The service is secure - you can only initiate requests to Top Up a phone from the mobile phone number which you register with us through our secure and authenticated AIB Internet Banking channel. To confirm the Top Up by Text request you will be asked to submit random digits from your Personal Access Code (PAC)
  • If you change networks and retain your existing phone number, e.g. move from Vodafone but retain your 087 number, you do not have to re-register - you can continue to use the Top Up by Text service; If you change phone numbers you can continue to Top Up by simply amending your phone number by selecting the Top Up by Text from the Mobile Top Up section on AIB Internet Banking.

Important Security Notes

It is important that you delete all messages sent or received relating to Top Up by Text. This includes any messages saved in your "sent" folder on phones that have this feature.

For security reasons, your Top Up by Text request will time-out if you do not reply or receive a response within fifteen minutes.

You will only receive a text message from AIB in relation to the Top Up by Text service from our specific shortcode 50131. Should you receive a request for your banking details e.g. Personal Access Code (PAC) from any other number please do NOT reply and report any such incidents to us immediately by email to alert@aib.ie or by calling 0818 724 724.

Service Availability

Top Up by Text is available to all AIB Internet Banking customers, on most mobile networks in the Republic of Ireland (i.e. O2, Meteor, Vodafone or Tesco Mobile) and while roaming abroad. Availability while roaming is dependent on your mobile operator and additional operator charges may apply.
Top Up by Text is available between 7.00 a.m. and 3.00 a.m. The services will be unavailable for periods of time outside these hours (i.e. between 3.00 a.m. - 7.00 a.m.)

Service Fee & Charges

There is no text message charge for using Top Up by Text. However, the standard automated/self service transaction fee of EUR0.20 applies for each Top Up by Text transaction (Please click here  to see how you can bank free of maintenance and transactions fees) This transaction fee will be debited from your account, as detailed in your quarterly Fee Advice statement.

How to register for Top Up by Text on AIB Internet Banking

Step 1: Log in to AIB Internet Banking
Step 2: Click 'Mobile Top Up' on the left of the screen
Step 3: Click the 'Top Up by Text' tab at the top of the page
Step 4: Enter your 10 digit mobile phone number
Step 5: Select whether your phone is a Prepaid or Billpay phone
Step 6: Select the account you wish to debit for the amount of the Top Up
Step 7: When you click 'Next' you will be requested to enter one random digit of your PAC
You are now registered for Top Up by Text and can start topping up immediately.
Handy Hint: It's a good idea to save AIB's 50131 number as "AIB Top Up by Text" in your mobile contacts, so you don't need to remember the number.

How to use Top Up by Text

Step 1

To Top Up your own registered phone by EUR15, text TOPUP to 50131
To Top Up your own registered phone for any other value, text 'TOPUP' and the value of the top up required separated by a space to 50131, e.g. 'TOPUP 20' (You can Top Up your phone in amounts between EUR10 and EUR40 in multiples of ?5)
If you want to Top Up another pre-paid phone, simply text the word TOPUP, the value required, the phone number you wish to Top Up and mobile phone provider (O2, Meteor, Vodafone or Tesco) all separated by spaces to 50131, e.g. topup 30 0871234567 vodafone.

Note you can abbreviate the name of the provider to a single letter i.e. V (Vodafone), O (O2), M (Meteor), T(Tesco Mobile) e.g. TOPUP 30 0871234567 v


Step 2

You will receive a response from AIB confirming your request and requesting three random digits of your Personal Access Code (PAC)

Step 3

Reply (to 50131) with the requested three PAC digits, e.g. 297 to 50131

Step 4

You will then receive a confirmation message from AIB stating that your Top Up request is being processed
For security reasons, your text request will time-out if you do not reply within fifteen minutes.

How to unsubscribe from Top Up by Text

You can unsubscribe from the service at any time by logging in to AIB Internet Banking.

Step 1: Log in to AIB Internet Banking
Step 2: Click 'Mobile Top Up' on the left of the screen and click the Top Up by Text tab at the top of the screen
Step 3: Select Cancel Registration
Step 4: Confirm the Cancel Registration request
Step 5: You can re-register to use Top Up by Text at any time. Unsubscribing from Top Up by Text will not affect your AIB Internet Banking registration.

AIB Phone Banking

Registered customers of AIB Phone Banking can ring 0818 724 724 (+353 1 7712424 from outside the Republic of Ireland) and use the self service facility to Top Up.

As a registered customer of AIB Phone Banking you can top up any Meteor, O2, Vodafone, eMobile, Tesco Mobile or Three phone. Simply, phone 0818 724 724 and follow the prompts on the phone.

ATM Top Up

AIB Banklink and Debit Cardholders can use their card at an AIB ATM to Top Up a Meteor, O2, Vodafone, eMobile, Three or Tesco Mobile phone. Simply select "Mobile Top Up" from the ATM menu options and follow the instructions on screen.
