Secure Internet Shopping

AIB, Visa and MasterCard (Maestro) are working with participating retailers to give AIB Credit and Debit Cardholders additional security and peace of mind when shopping online. It safeguards you by identifying you with unique information, known only to you.

Here's how it works:

When you shop online with participating retailers, you will be asked to register for this secure service. You can choose to ignore this request to register once, but on the next occasion you must register, otherwise you will not be able to purchase with that online retailer in future. It makes sense, therefore, to register straight away. You can also enrol here and get set up straight away.

When you register, you will be asked for your card number and some additional pieces of information.

Every time you use the convenience of online shopping with participating retailers, AIB and Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode section will appear on the participating retailer's webpage and ask you for random characters from your password.

It only takes a moment or two, and it's for your own protection so that you can feel secure, whenever you do your online shopping.

Certain retailers will not be enabled for this service. If you choose to shop with them, you can follow normal online procedures.

Please note: You can now also use your AIB Debit Card online where you see the Maestro symbol. In some cases, while a retailer may appear to be based in the Republic of Ireland, the retailer may choose to locate their website or payment processing services outside of the Republic of Ireland which may regrettably prevent you from using your AIB Debit Card to complete your transaction.

To register your AIB MasterCard, please view the link 'Register your MasterCard' in the Related Information section. This indicates that you are registering for the global programme "MasterCard®SecureCode^TM".

Debit Cards (Shopping online on sites that accept Maestro)
