The AIB Build a Bank Challenge is an enjoyable and exciting way for Transition and 5th Year students to run their own School Bank, with the support of AIB, and at the same time learn a whole lot about managing their own business.
Now in its 10th year, the programme has gone from strength to strength. Based on the feedback of those who have taken part in the past, it is a very rewarding and enriching experience both for teachers and students alike.
The AIB Build a Bank Challenge sees a team of six students selected to set up and manage a bank in their school, getting involved in everything from sourcing new customers and opening AIB accounts to encouraging regular savings and exploring new ways to bank, such as AIB Phone & Internet Banking.
What experience will students gain?
Each School Bank will have six key personnel:
Interested candidates will be interviewed for each of the positions. All students will receive feedback on their performances. The experience and learnings here will improve students CV writing skills and interview techniques.
AIB representatives will provide full training for each of the positions within the School Bank Team. Students will also be trained on the operation of their School Bank.
Each School Bank Team will be given a marketing budget to get them up and running and will be given full guidelines as to what this can be used for in the context of the AIB Build a Bank Challenge.
The School Bank will be opened at least once a fortnight under the support and supervision of a local AIB representative. Each School will also be able to download a comprehensive School Bank Pack with everything needed to run the Bank, including a detailed Operating Manual.
Note: Immediate family members of AIB staff are not entitled to apply for positions in the School Bank.
