Business

Maths

  • Accuracy and accounting of bank transactions
  • Data manipulation into graphs and diagrams
  • Analysis and percentages in survey results

English

  • Writing reports and business documents
  • Presentation and linguistic skills in recounting procedures for exhibiting and adjudication
  • Writing of promotional materials
  • CV writing skills

Media Studies

  • Analysis of current media trends
  • Developing strategies to advertise and publicise services to target market
  • Launching services and on-going marketing strategy.

Art

  • Layout of exhibition - how to make it stand out from the rest
    Development of a visual identity e.g. logo
  • Graphic design of promotional materials
  • Visually communicating business procedures through several different medium; photography, charts, illustrations

Computers/Technology

  • Using technology and computer packages for Word reports
  • Familiarisation with banking online procedures
  • Representation of data and manipulation in Microsoft Excel
  • Creating effective slideshows in Microsoft PowerPoint

Hidden Curriculum

  • Co-operative Learning/Group Work - working together with their peers to teach and learn from each other
  • Job Specific Skills - learning how to put together CVs, interview techniques and presentation skills, deal with superiors, subordinates, etc.
  • Leadership Skills/Team Work - learning key skills that will help students flourish in the job market later in life
  • Multiple Intelligences - students from all different aptitudes and abilities can get involved and benefit by stretching their skills in many areas
  • Cross-Curricular - AIB Build a Bank Challenge necessitates the pollination of skills learnt from many different subjects (see above)
  • Divergent and Entrepreneurial thinking - students thinking outside the box and striving to find ways to make their business enterprise the most cutting edge and effective
  • Developing Interpersonal Skills - with their team-mates, customers, fellow participants, adjudicators, business professionals, etc.
