AIB Terms of Business

These are the Terms of Business of Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. and its subsidiaries listed below. Each of the companies is authorised by the Financial Regulator. Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. trades as AIB, AIB Bank, AIB Finance & Leasing, AIB Global Treasury Services, AIB Trade Finance Services, AIB Corporate Banking, AIB Corporate Banking Ireland, AIB International Corporate Banking Ireland and AIBIT. AIB Leasing Limited trades as AIB Finance & Leasing.

Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. is a tied insurance agent of Ark Life Assurance Company Limited for life assurance business. Ark Life Assurance Company Limited is a subsidiary of Hibernian Aviva Life Holdings Limited, a joint venture company between Hibernian Aviva Group p.l.c. and Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. AIB Investment Managers Limited holds an appointment in writing from Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. enabling it to receive deposits on its behalf only.

AIB Insurance Services Limited is under a contractual obligation to conduct insurance mediation business exclusively for more than one insurance undertaking whose names and addresses are available on request.  Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. and AIB Insurance Services Limited are registered as Insurance Intermediaries under the Insurance Mediation Regulations 2005.  Details of registration are available to view on the Insurance Mediation Register on the Financial Regulator website at: www.financialregulator.ie

Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. has an indirect holding of 30% in Hibernian Aviva Health Insurance Limited.  

We charge for our products and services as set out in detail in our agreements or in our booklets of fees and charges relevant to such services.

We have a conflicts of interest policy in place to ensure that conflicts of interest are avoided. Where it is not possible to avoid a conflict of interest, we will ensure you are treated fairly and seek your acknowledgment in writing that you still wish to proceed to take up the product or service.

If you default in an agreement with us we may terminate that agreement and take such steps (including legal proceedings and enforcement of security) as we consider necessary to recover what you owe us.

We have in place a written procedure for the handling of complaints. This procedure provides that complaints will be appropriately recorded, investigated and resolved. The outcome of any investigation will be communicated to you. For complaints that cannot be resolved immediately, we will provide you with regular updates.

If you have reason to complain about the provision to you of a product or service, or the failure to provide a product or service, you should firstly contact the manager of the relevant branch or department. If the matter is not resolved to your satisfaction, you should write to; The Manager, AIB Customer Support Centre, Bankcentre, Dublin 4.

If your complaint is still not resolved to your satisfaction, you may then refer the complaint

Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. and AIB Mortgage Bank are members of the Deposit Protection Scheme administered by the Financial Regulator. The Deposit Protection Scheme protects depositors in the event of a credit institution failing. The maximum amount payable is EUR100,000 in respect of all deposits held by one Depositor.
Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c., AIB Investment Managers Limited, AIB Insurance Services Limited and Goodbody Stockbrokers are members of the Investor Compensation Scheme. When an authorised investment firm goes out of business and cannot return investments or money that it owes its investors, the Investor Compensation Company Limited will give eligible investors compensation of up to 90% of their investment subject to a maximum compensation payment of EUR20,000.

Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c., AIB Insurance Services Limited and AIB Mortgage Bank are regulated by the Financial Regulator.

Data Protection Notice - Use of Information

This Notice explains what 'AIB' and 'AIB Group' will do with your information so that you can decide whether or not to provide that information to us.  'AIB' refers to Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. and 'AIB Group' refers to Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c., its Irish subsidiaries, affiliates and their respective parent and subsidiary companies. 

The information that you provide will be held by AIB Group on a computer database and/or in any other way.  We will use this information;

  • To administer the products and services that we supply to you and any future agreements that we may have with you and, to manage and develop AIB Group's relationship with you.          
  • For direct marketing purposes, where you have given your permission to do so, to advise you of products or services of AIB Group. If you wish to change your preferences at any time, please write to us to let us know at your local AIB branch or the Data Protection Unit, Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. Bankcentre, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.
  • To carry out searches (including verifying your identity and/or a credit search) and disclose information to credit reference agencies for the purpose of assisting applications for credit and credit related services and for ongoing credit review.  We may use credit scoring techniques and other automated decision making systems to assess your application.  If you borrow or enter into a financial obligation, or may do so, we may give details of your agreement(s) /account(s) and how you conduct your agreement(s)/account(s), to licensed credit reference agencies on a regular basis.  Licensed credit reference agencies will record details of each type of search AIB Group makes whether or not your application proceeds. 
  • To prevent and detect fraud.  Customer information can be used to prevent crime and trace those responsible.  We may check your details with fraud prevention agencies. If you give us false or misleading information and we suspect fraud, we will record this.
  • To carry out statistical analysis and market research; in this connection, we may use the services of a reputable external agency.   

We may record telephone conversations to offer you additional security, resolve complaints and improve our service standards. Conversations may also be monitored for staff training purposes.  Our websites use "cookie" technology. A cookie is a little piece of text stored by your browser on your computer, at the request of our server. We may use cookies to deliver content specific to your interests and to save your personal preferences so you don't have to re-enter them each time you connect to the Internet.

Under the Data Protection Acts you have the right of access to information we hold about you on our records on payment of a nominal fee (currently EUR6.35). You can exercise this right by writing to your local AIB branch or to the Data Protection Unit, Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c., Bankcentre, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. If anything is inaccurate or incorrect, please let us know and we will correct it. There is no fee for this.

If you decide to proceed with this application or have any other communication with AIB Group through or in relation to its products and services you consent to the use by AIB Group of your personal data as indicated above.
