Check you are using a recent browser
As a security measure AIB has introduced 128-bit SSL encryption to help protect customer information on the Internet. Some older browsers are not capable of providing this level of security.
If you use an old browser you may be prevented from using the service.
Upgrading for most browsers is free and simple to do. Below is a list of some of the more common browsers along with brief instructions on how to check your browser version and level of encryption.
Internet Explorer users
To determine the version:
- At the top of the browser window in the toolbar section, please click on 'help'.
- From the Help dropdown menu, please select 'About Internet Explorer'
- The version number will appear in the window
Version 5.5 or higher will already have 128-bit SSL encryption.
Firefox users
To determine the version:
- At the top of the browser window in the toolbar section, please click on 'Help'
- From the Help dropdown menu, please select 'About Mozilla Firefox'
- The version number will appear in the window
All versions of Firefox have 128-bit SSL encryption.
Netscape users
To determine the version:
- At the top of the browser window in the toolbar section, please click on 'Help'
- From the Help dropdown menu, please select 'About Netscape'
- The version number will appear in the window
To determine the level of encryption used for this browser:
- From the toolbar menu, click on 'Preferences'.
- Within the window displayed, from the list of items on the left side, click on 'Navigator'.
- On the right, below 'Advanced security (SSL) configuration', ensure both the secure sockets layer checkboxes are checked.
- Click on the 'Configure SSL v3' button
- On the configures ciphers screen, ensure the rc4 encryption with 128-bit key and an md5 Mac checkbox id checked. If this checkbox is not displayed on the screen, or it says rc4 encryption with a 128-bit key and an md5 (when permitted), then you do not have a browser 128-bit SSL encryption.
Viruses, security breaches and general malicious software is being developed all the time. To ensure you are using the most secure version on your chosen browser we would advise that you periodically check for updates.
Further details on upgrading your browser as well as information on other browsers can be found at www.aib.ie/128.

Check your browser is not saving your password
Some browsers may ask you if you wish the browser to save your password. This can be a useful and time-saving option for some single password sites.
AIB internet Banking will ask for different characters from your PAC each time. In this case a browser with a 'saved password' will try to use the wrong 'password'.
To stop this from happening follow the instructions below:
Internet Explorer Users
- From the toolbar menu, click on the Tools button
- Select 'Internet options'
- Select the 'Content' tab
- Select the 'AutoComplete' button
- Select the 'Clear Passwords' button and click 'Ok' when prompted
Mozilla Users
- From the toolbar menu, click on the Tools button
- Select 'Options'
- Select the 'Privacy' tab
- Select the 'Clear' button adjacent to the words 'Saved Passwords'.

Check you have access to secure sites
It may be that your internet connection has been set up in such a way that it will prevent you from accessing secure sites. This is more common in business environments than at home.
Below are links to two sites that have no affiliation with AIB but are hosted on secure sites.
If you are able to view both of these sites than you do not have a problem with accessing secure sites.
If however, you could not access either sites you will need to contact either your IT support (if accessing from within a business environment) or your service provider if you are accessing the internet from home.
