Security principles. The Do's and Don'ts when using AIB Internet Banking.

The do's

Do, stay up-to-date

Ensure that your computer has up-to-date anti-virus software and a firewall installed.

Check that you're using a recent browser version.

Do, keep it secure

Keep your Registration Number, Personal Access Code and Code Card for AIB Phone & Internet Banking secure.

Make sure that your browser is set to the highest level of security notification and monitoring.

Do, be sure of the website

Ensure that you are accessing the AIB Internet Banking service through the correct web site address, which is http://www.aib.ie/internetbanking.

It is a good idea to bookmark our web site address in your browser or type in the site address manualy every time.

Do, use the message centre

By subscribing to the message centre within AIB Internet Banking you can be sure that anything you recieve through it be direct from AIB.

Do, be sure of the connection

Ensure that you are using a secure connection.

Once you click on Log in you should notice 'https' at the start of the web site address.

There should also be a 'locked padlock' or 'unbroken key symbol' showing at the bottom of your browser window. This indicates that you are in a secure session.

If in doubt, check that the site certificate is valid before logging in. Below is how you would check in a number of differnet browsers:

Internet Explorer

  • Double click on the padlock
  • Click on the "Detail" tab.
  • Click on "Subject", in the main window it should read as follows:
    • CN = internetbanking.aib.
    • OU = eBusiness
    • O = AIB Group

Firefox & Netscape

  • Double click on the padlock
  • Click on the "Security" tab
  • Click on the "View" button
  • On the "General" tab, under the title 'Issued to' it should read as follows:
    • CN = internetbanking.aib.
    • O = AIB Group
    • OU = eBusiness

The don'ts

Don't, reply to emails

If an email is encouraging you to reveal your login information or other personal data it will be a fake!

We can assure you that AIB will never ask you to provide account or login information via email.

If you receive an email asking for any details relating to your AIB Bank account:

  • Do not respond
  • Do not click on any links
  • Do not open any attachments
  • Do, forward the mail to alert@aib.ie then delete it.

Don't, divulge your details

Never divulge your Registration Number, Personal Access Code or Code Card codes to anyone.
