What is AIB Text Top Up?

This service allows AIB Phone & Internet Banking customers to top up a prepaid mobile phone using SMS Text.

What is the cost of using the service?

All text messages for using this service are free of charge.

There is a 20c standard electronic banking charge for each transaction. For further information, please refer to 'A Guide to Fees and Charges for Personal Customers' on the main site.

What number do I text to top up?

To request a top up send your text message to 50131.

For convenience save the number in your phone book so you can find it quickly and easily.

What amounts can I top up?

Top ups vary from €10-€40 in multiples of €5. In a single transactions you cat top up any of the following amounts:

  • €10
  • €15
  • €20
  • €25
  • €30
  • €35
  • €40

By simply texting topup a default amount of €15 will be applied to your account.

You can top up to a maximum of €220 in one day, subject to available funds in your chosen account.

How do I pay for the top up?

When registering for the service, you select a suitable account to debit for the corresponding top up credits.

The debit is applied to your account instantly following the confirmation of the correct PAC details.

The standard transaction fee of 20c for internet and phone account transactions applies. For further information, please refer to 'A Guide to Fees and Charges for Personal Customers' on the main site.

How long does it take to credit a mobile phone?

Credit is applied to the phone within approximately 15 minutes.

What happens if I don't have call credit?

All text messages are free of charge for this service, so it is possible to use Text Top Up when you have no call credit.

However while roaming this may not be possible; it depends on your roaming mobile operator as additional operator charges may apply.

What network is the service avalible for?

The AIB Text Top Up service is avalible with the following mobile operators:

  • Meteor
  • O2
  • Vodafone

Can I use the service while roaming?

Yes, but availability while roaming is dependent on your mobile operator.

You should continue to send your text messages to the 53101 shortcode.

Separate mobile operators charges may apply.

How should I key in the top up text messages?

It doesn't matter if you key in topup or TOPUP, both commands are accepted.

When replying with your PAC, don't leave a space between the 3 digits.

Do I have to specify an amount?

No, if you do not specify an amount the default amount of €15 will be applied to your account.

When is this service available?

Text Top Up is available between 7.00 a.m. and 3.00 a.m.

Can I top up a friend's or my child's phone using Text Top Up?

Yes, if they are pre-paid customer and if you have registered your own mobile phone number on AIB Internet Banking for Text Top Up.

If I change my mobile phone number or network provider what happens?

To amend your mobile phone number for Text Top Up:

  • log on to AIB Internet Banking
  • Select 'text services'; from the left hand menu
  • Overtype the old phone number with your new number
  • Click 'confirm'

If you change your mobile network provider but keep your number, the service continues to operate normally, and no further action is required.

How secure is this service?

The service is highly secure.

It can only be used from the phone you registered with us and requires digits of your PAC to be entered before your request will be processed.

It is important that you delete any messages to or from AIB from your phone once you are finished reading them.

What happens if I am out of coverage or my battery fails?

After you request a top up you have 15 minutes to respond.

After that time, for security reasons, your request will be cancelled.

What happens if I don't get a response to my message?

Your network provider may be experiencing difficulties at the time, your request will time-out after 15 minutes, so you should try again later.
