Code of Conduct for Business Lending to Small and Medium Enterprises 2012

Concerned about your business finances?

The revised Code of Conduct for Lending to Small & Medium Enterprises came into effect on 1st January 2012.

The Code's objectives are :

  • To facilitate access to credit for sustainable and productive business propositions
  • To promote fairness and transparency in the treatment of SMEs by regulated entities
  • To ensure that when dealing with financial difficulties cases, the aim of a regulated entity will be to assist borrowers to meet their obligations, or otherwise deal with the situation in an orderly and appropriate manner.

These are challenging times for every business. At AIB we know that some of our business customers are experiencing very difficult trading conditions and financial pressures. Decreasing revenues, increasing costs, and cashflow pressures as well as exposure to customers or suppliers who may be experiencing their own issues are a challenge for many businesses in today's environment.

Dealing with financial problems in business is very stressful but tackling problems and seeking the appropriate advice at an early stage is the best approach for a business.
